Most baby-name sites will tell you any name means something beautiful. Ask three of them about the same name and you will get three confident, incompatible answers — none with a source.
BabyVedicName is built on one rule: every asserted meaning is traceable — to a scripture citation, a dated dictionary entry, or a grammatical derivation the engine actually performed. When we cannot establish a meaning, the page says “not found”, and that honesty is the product. The site is free to use, with no sign-up and no advertising.
Naming a child is guidance we take seriously — but it is guidance, not consultation. For rituals and traditions, your family, community and teachers come first.
API access
Researchers and scholars can query the engine as JSON at
/api/v1/meaning/{name} (Devanagari input). Access needs an API key —
free tier, 100 requests per day, issued manually. Email
[email protected] with a line on
what you are studying. Bulk extraction is prohibited by our
terms; the key exists so honest use is easy and scraping is
not.
