How your spelling relates to the dictionary word

When you type a name, it rarely matches a dictionary headword letter-for-letter. Our engine classifies the relationship — and each type makes a different promise about meaning. आपके नाम और शब्दकोश के शब्द का रिश्ता पाँच प्रकार का हो सकता है।

  • M1 — the same word, inflected. Like “running” beside “run”. Meaning identical.
  • M2 — a sound-change at the word’s edge (sandhi, visarga). The word is unchanged underneath. Meaning identical.
  • M3 — a true derivative. A suffix has built a new word from a base — and derivatives shift meaning. We always show both meanings, side by side, never blended.
  • M4 — an attested short form. A nickname the tradition itself records, with its source cited.
  • M5 — no established relation. This one is a refusal, not a type: if we cannot prove one of the four links above, we draw no link at all.

The “Why this matches what you typed” block on every result page is exactly this classification, in plain words.
